Babies, Rain and Vegan Lunches

Busy day yesterday.
First of all, the weather was hideous. I mean rain coming from every direction... I went to pilates in the morning (started this a few weeks ago after someone offered me a seat on the subway, clearly thinking I was about 7 months pregnant). That wasn't the first time that had happened so I decided something needed to be done. Then my pilates instructor says, as I walk in, sans brolly looking like a drowned rodent 'oh, must remind you of home'. Why does everyone go on and on about the weather in England. It's not that bad!!! I just read online that they were going to have an 80 degree w/end!!! It's only 70's here, what do they all know?!

Then I had a date with my friend Karen in town. We decided on lunch and a movie. Karen always picks these interesting, vegan, organic restaurants, that I'm always skeptical about, but this one was really good!! I'm not saying that it's somewhere I would go to on a regular basis, as those of you that know me, know how much I love chips/dips/fried, greasy food but I wouldn't NOT come here again - it's called Caravan of Dreams in the East Village www.caravanofdreams.net

Then we walked (in the chucking down rain) to the Sunshine Cinema (how ironic with the rain) to see Babies. It's a really cute, 79 minute documentary on four different babies and the first years of their (different in every possible way) lives. I really recommend it. 79 minutes of no narration, barely any spoken words, and yet it works. It flew by, and I did shed a tear or two. Upon leaving the Sunshine, it really was coming down even more, so we decided to take refuge in Whole Foods for it to abate (it didn't). Now one thing about Karen, she is single, and always glamorous and always makes me feel and look like old mother hubbard next to her. So I put on my cute, baby Phat flats and a cute top. She of course was sensible yday and wore a proper coat and rain boots (but still managed to look glamorous). I was soaked. My feet were slipping all over the place. It was like slathering vaseline on your feet and walking around the edge of a swimming pool.

So, go see babies, eat at organic vegan restaurants, and you will have a pretty good day!
