Amazing App on ITunes

So.. I am so proud of my dear friends, Kayce and Marcus, who came up with such a brilliant idea for an I-Phone application that I want to share it with everyone! It's truly a genius idea and I hope they have every success with it that they deserve.

They are art nuts... So they came up with this amazing idea to share 'street art' with everyone. Now, you know, when you walk by something, and think, 'this is cool, but what the hell is it'... They give you the answer!!! I honestly can't endorse this app enough especially in urban areas where we walk around with somewhat ignorance in knowing what truly is around us, ie the artist or even giving people an almost tourist guide to move among street art pieces that they may necessarily (sadly) miss.

I can't commend them enough for the hard work they have put into this, I truly take my hat of to them and wish them so much success. Please check them out..

Wake Up Call

So I had a bit of a wake up call yesterday. I was so mad at myself because even though I had invested money in buying a 'hands free kit' for my mobile, talking on it STILL distracted me to the point that I ended up going on the wrong bridge to the wrong Island!! Granted, it's an easy mistake to make as with all the construction going on, two screaming kids in the back that were fed up with the traffic, it can get a bit confusing, but I've lived here long enough to know I can't use that as an excuse.

Then this morning, Oprah Winfrey was on the Today show about her new campaign to stop cell phone use all together if you are driving... Today she has decreed it 'No Phone Zone Day' I made a decision. When I go to the movies, I can silence or turn off my phone for at least two hours, so why can't I do the same in the car? I'm going to start from today silencing my phone and hiding it in the glove box until I reach my destination. I have precious cargo now, and even if the kids aren't with me maybe someone in the other car is. I've always prided myself in returning calls/texts/emails right away but from now on, there may be a delay!

Spencer turns 4!

We head out to CONEY Island yesterday to go to the aquarium to celebrate Spencer's Fourth Birthday, and ended up in horrific traffic on the BQE (Brooklyn Queens Expressway). I don't know why they call it 'express way' as they are doing construction on it until about 2050 and it's a parking lot every day....

As usual, I digress. I was on a (hands free) call and suddenly found myself on the Verrazano Bridge which takes you to STATEN Island... I was so mad at myself for allowing that to happen (see future blog) but after paying the $11 toll to go over the bridge decided to see what there was to do in Staten Island instead.

We stumbled across the Children's Museum - www.statenislandkids.org and had the BEST time! Maybe it was divine intervention from my friend that had called me for that to happen, or complete stupidity more like on my part, but it was a great find and we will certainly go back there. The kids got soaked in this water exhibit and I had no change of clothes for them - first thing I am doing today is leaving extra clothes in the back of the car! Here are some shots.

we then went into Manhattan for dinner. Spencer wanted 'dinner at a long restaurant in Manhattan'!! He is MY child!! We went to this placce http://www.chinatownbrasserie.com/. It was soooo good. Oh - here is a bit of juicy gossip - Spencer was wearing a 'batman' t-shirt and as Joe brought him in - the actor Justin Long was there (Drew Barrymore boyfriend). he is WAY hotter in real life and apparently his friend saw Spence in the t-shirt and said 'hey, it's batman, it's a sign'!! So now stay tuned to see if Justin stars in any Batman movies - I think Spence deserves a cut of his royalties right??!

Effin Volcano

So here I am ignorantly thinking that this volcano that begins with an E, has about 20 vowels and well, really, does anyone non Icelandic know how to pronounce it, wasn't going to affect my somewhat boring life too much. I wasn't stranded over there, I had no plan to go anywhere (sadly). But I am affected, or rather my son is. His birthday is Thursday and I've been told all post from England is delayed in both directions up to three weeks due to the enormous backlog of post that didn't go out. Urgh, try telling that to my four year old son when he is awaiting his new batman costume from his Uncle Chris and Auntie Emma...

David Beckman on The View

I had a nice treat when I brought Margaux in from her class at the Y this morning. I had left the tv on (which I don't normally do but you know some mornings it happens). Anyway, as I walk in (from the rain) there in all his glory was David Beckman hobbling to the couch to meet the ladies on The View. Now I have no idea why he was on there, he has no movie or book coming out, he certainly isn't plugging any upcoming football games he is in, he must be bored! Despite him saying 'We was in Napa last week' at which I cringed (we 'were' David) I really have no complaints. He looked gorgeous. Seriously, that man just gets better looking. Victoria was there also, and she looks great too, she never seems to age. Again, I have no idea why he was on there, other than to have a morning gab, but I'm not moaning. It certainly brightened up a cheery day.

meanwhile, here are the kiddies in their wagon. We was at the park :)

Almost 5000 views? watch out Charlie bit my finger!...

Update on the Tina Fey/Donut article

Ha - so my New York magazine came (not my favourite magazine after they did a really unfavourable article on me and hubby a few years ago.. Anyway, as always, I digress.. And I always flick first to my favourite section on the back page - 'The Approval Matrix' and the Tina Fey article is mentioned under 'Brilliant Lowbrow'!! To quote for those that don't get the mag - 'Tina Fey on Peter Pan doughnuts in Greenpoint: 'If I had a penis, I would put it in this donut'.

HILARIOUS!! Now I'm not sure if I should take this particular page to the old biddes as they still seem so upset over her initial article, but they just don't get it, it's even MORE business for them!!

You call this a slice of white pizza?

After a fun w/end in Florida which was much needed after all the recent 'drama' I came back to NY craving a pizza.

So I trundled up to our local spot and asked for a slice of my favourite pizza 'white'.

This is what they served. No yes, they are 'bite' marks in them, but I was bloody staaaaarving and had to just take a bite, and maybe another, until I realised how disgusting it was and thus broke out the camera to share.

Kidney Stones and Robert Moses Beach

Interesting few hours.
First of all, I spent three hours at NYU Emergency Room downtown last night in crippling pain. Turns out I had kidney stones. I limped in, barely able to stand up and after three hours of listening to babies screaming, old people moaning and drunks shouting, I was dismissed and left with almost a spring in my step (and feeling slightly embarrassed). Had I known it was just kidney stones I obviously wouldn't have gone in, but at the time I was scared to death.

Then today it's 85 degrees here in NY so I took the kids, plus Spencer's friend Denim to Robert Moses beach out in Long Island. Here are some shots from the day.

Tina Fey and donuts

We have an amazing donut shop that is horrifyingly close to us. It is perhaps the best donut you will ever have in the world and we've been going every w/end for over four years.

I took the kids in the other day and there was an outrage amongst all the regulars and what a 'potty' mouth Tina Fey has. Naturally my curiousity was piqued so I asked what was up and they showed me an interview the amazing Ms. Fey just did for Esquire magazine. I can't find it online to quote verbatum but it had something to do with penis's and donuts. She said how great Peter Pan's donuts were and yet they were all horrified by her. I tried to explain to them that what she said was 'great press' but they looked at me with a 'you're as bad as she is' face so I bolted! Nothing I could say would appease them, I just hope Ms Fey goes back soon so maybe I can congratulate her on what she said and getting all the old biddies so rattled!

Correction - it's BUG OFF

I realised when Spencer was spelling it out loud in the car that I was wrong. It's B U G O F F on Ponyo, not B O G O F F. I actually think Bug Off is worse as it rhymes with F### off. You get the drift...

In the meantime, here are the cuties. Spencer is obsessed with his Buzz Lightyear costume (thanks Uncle Chris and Auntie Emma) and Margaux her princess dress (Auntie Hayley)
