B O G O F F

Spencer has been really into this Japanese animated film called Ponyo lately. It's pretty good but slightly quirky. It stars the brilliant Tina Fey and is about this goldfish that turns into a little girl. Like I said... quirky.

ANYWAY, there is a scene in it where TF's character is mad at her husband so sends him a sea signal - and she spells it out letter by letter, B O G O F F and repeats it over and over again. Now Spencer is going around telling everyone to B O G O F F thinking it means something else! It's making for interesting faces from everyone he tells to bog off!

International Kids Festival

Sorry for the delay in posting. No excuses, just laziness.

One thing I wanted to give a shout out to was the International Kids Film Festival that we took Spencer too recently in the city. Only in New York!! It was amazing. 8 films for $10!! BARGAIN! Some were naff, but two really stood out, Happy Ducking and Lost and Found. I could watch them again. And guess what, both made by Brits. We really do rule the entertainment world!!

Jonathan Ross

I'm pretty certain my husband doesn't read my blog, so I'm safe in admitting that I have had a bit of a crush on Wosso for some time now.. Don't get me wrong, Joe (the hubby) is WAAAAY better looking than him, but I think my thing with him is that it's been for years, and years and years!!! I have admired him from afar for at least half my lifetime. But now I think it's more 'admiration' than 'lust' (sorry JR if you ever read this which is highly unlikely)

Here is my stance on all this... I will miss him immensely when he leaves BBC.. I don't care how much he is worth, he is worth it.. If you think about how much his US equivalents get (ie Jay L and Dave L), then he is a bargain!! I hope, like the rumour mill says, he does come here, and find his calling then he will know he has an audience. Well perhaps one or two of us in Brooklyn!

His interview with Jay-Z that I just saw (god knows when it aired, I am just getting round to watching tv again) was amazing. Jay-z fukin ruled. That guys is truly one of the smartest, most talented men every to hail from Brooklyn.. I saw him once at a knicks game and some deranged fan was screaming at him. He was so cool, it blew me away. He didn't diss her, but did dismiss her in a way that was super cool that my admiration him him ten folded. Although I still don't like his solo music but friCKIN LOVE EMPIRE STATE!! (i see it from my brooklyn roof) that the guy is purely a genius... And I think JR saw this too as I haven't seen him gush over a fan like that for a long time.

Cham - What an amazing 3 days!

Despite all the drama re my mum, we had this holiday to the Family Morris booked previously for about a gazzzilion months to see them in their new home in Switzerland so we decided to stick with our plans and it was so worth it! I have always trekked to their previous home in Worcester to see them, so was more than happy to go the extra mile (and a thousand!) to Cham, Switzerland!! Sally and Ian were the consummate hosts in their amazing Swiss chalet and we loved every single minute. Now, I'm not sure they did.. Margaux's 'squeal' could set off the local fire alarm.. (they increased their intake of nurofen pretty quickly) but i'm pretty sure they miss us now!!

Here are some highlights from our amazing few days:

RIP Hev/aka mum

I've thought long and hard about including this in my blog. But she was my mum and this blog is for posterity right??

The cremation was yday in Bristol. It was a cold, grey day. I didn't have my husband with me which was hard..

I managed to see my mum at the funeral home the night before. I'm not sure if seeing a 'departed' is a good idea or not, but for me it was. It gave closure to everything.

The next day I busied myself getting ready. I wanted to look good for mum. I looked the best I have looked for a long time. It lasted about 10 minutes until I saw her hearse coming up the drive and then I dissolved. Seeing the casket set off a trail of waterworks.

My stepfather had said it was to be a simple service, family only. However, my mum worked at the local hospice, a place that knows a thing or two about 'passing' and so the entire force of St Peter's Hospice seemed to show up. It shocked all of us. It showed us, that although mum had an 'eccentric' side with family (to put it mildly) she had a lot of love and respect where she worked. It meant so much to me that so many people showed up. The chaplain from the hospice did the sermon and she was amazing, she knew my mum so well and delivered the service without fault. I am sadly forgetting her name, but I remember she was from Orkney which surely impressed my Scottish mother.

May my mum rest in peace.

Oscars 2010

kinda boring. I predicted them all.. The only shocker to me was best adapted screenplay going to Precious, but I wasn't upset by it, it was such an amazing film I wanted it to win all the accolades it was up for quite frankly.

I watched The Blind Side on the way back from LHR to JFK. Ok - this is my take on all this.. In terms of 'acting' Gaboray Sidebe deserved to win for Precious. However, I 'get it'. The oscars do this... They seem to award on previous tenure and therefore SB was worthy of this years oscars. But surely... GS was amazing, for a first time actress, she blew me away, but I will never underestimate politics over performance (despite what Monique said..she was right but nobody came close to her this year)

To cite..Ellen Burstyn SHOULD have won for Reqeium for a Dream, but she lost to Julia Roberts (who I saw on a bus once going up park avenue in the late 90's and she was so awful, horrible. and full of herself that I instantly disliked her, although now I think she 'seems' to be much nicer person'...

Anyway, who I am, little ole me in BK.. But next year I am going to Vegas with my predictions b/c this is about the 8th year in a row I have predicted the winner WAY before they even got nominated!!

IN terms the ceremony. I LOVE Alec B and Steve Martin. I even got to seat Steve M once when I worked at Baltazer in NY (so we have a 'connection'!!) tee hee... But as much as I loved 'them' I cringed throughout most of the show. The bringing out of all ten 'actors' and then the bit where they all fawn all over each other pre annoucement... I couldn't hide anymore into my sofa cushion if I tried...

Please omit this from future shows.. I get it, it seemed like a good idea at the time. I have felt this way with 7/8 of my last boyfriends but trust me, it doesn't, and didn't work.

Modern Family - bloody genius

First of all, apologies to my best mate Kath in Bristol, who always laments that I mention American Shows that she knows nothing about (although I do believe this is on Sky...)!

Modern Family is the funniest show to come out of the US in a LONG time!! If Joe loves it, then it has to be good!! It is brilliant in every way. The acting is superb and the writing sublime.. This show deserves every accolade it is in the running for. I can't fault it in any way and urge everyone to tune in at least once.
